Chevy Volt named top Canadian green vehicle

chevy_640xThe 2016 Chevrolet Volt has once again been recognized as Canada’s top green car. The vehicle received the Canadian Green Car Award at the Green Living Show in Toronto, a three day long consumer show.

Just recently, the vehicle was crowned the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) 2016 Canadian Green Car of the Year award at the Vancouver International Auto Show and the Green Car of the Year award from the Green Car Journal.

The Canadian Green Car Award recognizes environmentally-friendly vehicles that also have mass-market appeal. A panel of Canadian journalists assess criteria, such as fuel economy, emissions and price, and they evaluate performance, driving experience, value and other “green” qualities.

“Chevrolet is honoured to receive the 2016 Canadian Green Car Award here at the Green Living Show, as it reinforces our leadership and commitment to electrification of the automobile,” said Nicolas Longpre, assistant brand manager, Chevrolet Canada, in a written release.

General Motors has been committed to making EVs more mainstream.

Upon receiving the award, David Paterson, Vice-President of corporate & environmental affairs for GM Canada, said the carmaker is working with governments across Canada to invest in better recharging infrastructure and come out with other incentives to increase EV adoption.
