The Zipcar car sharing service is gaining traction in Canadian cities, including Ottawa, which may threaten auto dealers operating in metropolitan markets.
Zipcar announced recently in a written release that it’s membership service is now available to Ottawa residents, businesses and visitors, with a total of 23 cars parked in popular areas across the city.
The company also said it has expansion plans to add more vehicles to its fleet within the next few months.
Zipcar positions itself as a viable alternative and convenient transportation service that saves consumers money associated with the costs of car ownership, by including gas, insurance and 200 km of driving per day in each reservation.
Ottawa consumers will also presented with many options of makes and models, depending on their needs or tastes, added the company.
To attract local Ottawa businesses, Zipcar said it offers a business program with discounted driving rates Monday to Friday.
The company said this program will help encourage businesses save money, meet environmental sustainability goals and providing employees with increased access to a vehicle.
