Subaru Canada marked Earth Day this year by reaching a milestone of planting 10,000 trees. This marks the completion of its initial goal tied to the Leave No Trace Canada Pledge.
The automaker, which became a supporting partner of Leave No Trace Canada in 2023, links each pledge taken by Canadians to a tree planted domestically. More than 10,000 pledges have been recorded to date, according to the company.
“Everyone that has signed the pledge should feel really proud of the impact they’re making,” said John Trenholme, Chair of Leave No Trace Canada, in a statement. “As an individual it is easy to feel like you can’t have an impact, but when it comes to protecting green spaces, our individual actions add up, just like planting trees. One tree isn’t’’ a lot, but we’ve planted 10,000. That’s a forest!”
The pledge is part of Subaru’s broader Adventure On Parks program, now in its fifth year, which aims to promote responsible outdoor recreation. The program also includes a national photo contest with more than 18,000 participants, partnerships with provincial parks through ambassador programs, and the distribution of more than 4,800 Parks Canada Discovery Passes.
Subaru Canada’s president and CEO, Yoichi Hori, said the initiative will continue beyond the initial target. “The completion of our 10,000 tree goal is just the beginning,” he said. “We will continue encouraging Canadians to commit to exploring responsibly.”
Participants in the pledge commit to following the seven principles of Leave No Trace, which include planning ahead, minimizing environmental impact and respecting wildlife and other park users.
