Competing in the 2013 Rallye Monte Carlo des Energies Nouvelles, Toyota Canada’s entry, a Prius Plug-in Hybrid was declared “most efficient” hybrid and finished the four-day event in fifth place. Driven by TCI Advanced Technology and Powertrain Engineer Vinh Pham, with Canadian rally veteran Alan Ockwell navigating, the duo achieved a consistent average fuel consumption of 3.9 L/100 km, despite the more than 1,500 km route and extreme changes in both elevation and driving conditions.
“We’re proud that the Prius PHV’s real world fuel efficiency was proven on such an aggressive course,” declared Stephen Beatty, Toyota Canada’s chief environmental officer. “We’re also extremely proud of Vinh and Alan for their fifth place finish and their commitment to showcasing what’s possible with a Prius.”
