First for Consumer Reports and IIHS: Best used cars for teens

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports have provided a first-ever list of the most recommended used vehicles for teens. In curating this list the industry leaders considered price, performance, reliability and safety, among other criteria. Based on pricing from Kelley Blue Book, most of the vehicles on the list are available for under $20,000. Some of the top picks include the Mazda 3, Subaru Legacy, Mazda CX-5 and GMC Terrain.
