The new NAFTA trade deal, known as CUSMA, will not limit Canada’s ability to retaliate should the U.S. impose tariffs on steel and aluminum, according to Steve Verheul, Assistant Deputy Minister at Global Affairs Canada. “We have options in terms of how we might respond on a bilateral basis, because as I mentioned, the statement itself says ‘aluminum-containing products.’ That’s a very broad category.
