This year’s Consumer Reports Top Picks featured a mix of repeat winners and some firsts in their segments after several years.
The Toyota Camry received its fifth consecutive win in the mid-size car category, and so did the Subaru Impreza, which took the top honour in the compact car segment for the fifth year in a row. For the second consecutive year, Subaru’s Forester won in the small SUV category.
The Chevrolet Impala also repeated its win in the Large car category.
The redesigned Ford F-150 was named best Pickup Truck, the first win for Ford in this category since 1999 and first overall Top Pick honour since 2012. Consumer Reports attributes the win to the F-150’s fuel economy, quiet and spacious cabin and improved infotainment system.
“This year several automakers have really hit the mark with their redesigned vehicles,” said Mark Rechtin, Content Development Team Leader for Consumer Reports. “This year’s Top Picks include refreshed models, like the Lexus RX, that have vaulted back to the top of their respective categories after lengthy absences.”
To be considered a Top Pick, vehicles are judged on performance, reliability, owner satisfaction and safety.
