Dealers join fight against distracted driving

LGM-Distracted-600LGM Financial Services Inc. is calling on Canadian dealers to join its campaign to help educate consumers on distracted driving, which causes around 80 per cent of collisions.

The company said it is on its way to reaching 700 registered dealers by campaign launch on March 1, and has 200 dealers on board leading up to the month-long awareness event.

Dealers who register for the Auto Dealers Against Distracted Driving campaign will receive a free campaign kit with materials they can use to help raise local awareness, said LGM. This includes a campaign-branded poster, key tags, pens and mirror danglers.

Participating dealers will also get an LGM ambassador who will provide support and guidance throughout the campaign, the company added.

“As the first point-of-contact with customers, dealer play a crucial role in encouraging positive driver behaviours like using hands-free technology or pulling off to the side of the road before you send a text,” said Shelley Hendy, dealer development manager for the Lower Mainland region at LGM, in a written release.

“The touchstone of this campaign is really that dealers are banding together from across the country, even joining their competitors, to curb a problem that affects everyone coast-to-coast,” said Marc-Andre Lefebvre, vice-president of sales for the Quebec region at LGM.

Last year, more than 430 dealerships across the country had registered for the campaign, with nearly 3,000 pledges made against distracted driving by customers at participating dealerships, said the company.
