ACTOR PATRICK DEMPSEY RACES MAZDAS AND DRIVES MERCEDES.
He plays heartthrob neurosurgeon Dr. Derek Shepherd on ABC’s hit medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy. Better known as “McDreamy,” actor Patrick Dempsey has also starred in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Sweet Home Alabama, and Freedom Writers. He’s also an avid car collector who owns a 1969 Mercedes 280SE, a 1963 Porsche 356 convertible, and a 1954 Jaguar 120 SE. Dempsey lives in Los Angeles with his second wife and three kids — a daughter and twin boys.
“I got the Mercedes Gullwing because I did Transformers and Michael Bay and I had an argument over who got the picture car. Of course, it was his movie, he won. But Mercedes allowed me to get this. The Mercedes Gullwing is a phenomenal car. The design of that car represents a certain luxuriousness,” confesses the 47-year-old actor. I love all kinds of cars and one of my favourite cars as a kid that I always wished to have was an early Mercedes 300SL Gullwing. It’s beautiful to look at, but probably not the most practical one to get. I’m very loyal to Mercedes. One of my first cars was a Mercedes — a 1972 240 diesel. I have a number of old ones, too.”
