Hyundai Canada and its dealer network are continuing their support for pediatric cancer programs with $350,000 in funding announced alongside a special event at Murray Hyundai White Rock in British Columbia.
The Hyundai Hope on Wheels event brought together patients and families from BC Children’s Hospital for a Handprint Ceremony, with Vancouver native and Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard, a Hyundai Canada brand ambassador, joining the gathering.
Now in its second year in Canada, the program saw Hyundai Canada and its network of 225 dealers donate $100,000 to BC Children’s Hospital, with another $250,000 provided through a partnership with the C17 Council.
The B.C. contribution forms part of Hyundai Hope on Wheels’ national commitment of more than $4.1 million in 2026 toward pediatric cancer care, research and family support programs across Canada. A portion of every new Hyundai vehicle sale supports the program.
The White Rock event also highlighted Weston and Bennett Openshaw, twin brothers who were diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia several months apart when they were two years old. Both received treatment at BC Children’s Hospital and are now seven and cancer-free.
“It is a special opportunity to get to spend this time with these brave kids, their families and support systems,” said Bedard. “The strength, positivity, and courage in everyone is truly inspiring. I’m very proud to support Hyundai Hope on Wheels, and the critical research and care that gives families hope when they need it most.”
The $250,000 C17 Council contribution will support research led by Dr. Poul Sorensen at the BC Cancer Research Centre into metastasis in childhood bone cancers.
