Genesis Canada renews Presidents Cup Automobile Sponsorship

Genesis has reached an agreement with the Presidents Cup, boosting its existing partnership this year and securing its place as the Official Automobile Sponsor until 2026.

The Presidents Cup is a biennial global team competition between the United States and an international team that does not include Europe. It is contested by the PGA TOUR and alternates between venues in the U.S. and overseas. It takes place this year at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Québec from Sept. 24-29.

The partnership with Presidents Cup is a global initiative and not owned by Genesis Canada, but Genesis Canada is adding a comprehensive activation on top of the existing agreement because the tournament is taking place on home soil this year.

“We look forward to welcoming Presidents Cup attendees to the prestigious Genesis Club, where they can enjoy the same comfort and hospitality that they would experience at all of our Genesis Retail Experience facilities across the country,” said Eric Marshall, Director of Genesis Motors Canada, in a statement.

In addition to Genesis Canada providing branded tournament vehicles, it has also been named the Title Partner of the Genesis Club — a hospitality venue that will be featured onsite when the Presidents Cup returns this year. To the style of Genesis, the club will offer an upscale venue with an open-air bar.

“We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Genesis for the 2024 Presidents Cup, where the Genesis Club will deliver an exquisite experience for buyers which matches the luxurious brand of our Official Automobile Sponsor,” said Executive Director Ryan Hart in a statement.

He said the Presidents Cup has become synonymous with best-in-class hospitality offerings and is “eager to host fans looking for an elevated experience as the world’s top players descend on The Royal Montreal Golf Club.”

This year’s event will see Mike Weir, who became the first and only Canadian to win the Masters when he did so in 2003, captain the International squad. He was announced as the captain in December 2022. Interest in Canadian men’s golf has never been higher because of the success of several players in recent years on the PGA Tour, including Nick Taylor winning the 2023 Canadian Open. He sunk a dramatic 72-foot putt on the fourth playoff hole against Tommy Fleetwood of England, becoming the first Canadian to win the event since Pat Fletcher in 1954.

In addition to Taylor, some of the other major Canadian players on the PGA Tour include Corey Conners, Adam Hadwin, Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes and Adam Svensson.

Taylor and Corey Conners will represent Canada in the upcoming Olympics.

There has been talk that there could be as many as three Canadians on the Presidents Cup International team.

Both squads in the Presidents Cup have 12 players apiece. The top six on the U.S. team are determined based on points system from the previous two years on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup, while the top six for International teams are based on the Official World Golf Ranking.

The remaining six picks for each squad are determined by the respective Captains and their assistants.

Keegan Bradley is the captain for the U.S. squad.
