Kia debuts first dedicated BEV with electrified concert

On Friday, Kia Canada debuted the EV6 — their first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) and released their new brand identity “Movement that inspires,” at an exclusive #KiaElectricSound concert event. Canadian award-winning artist Fefe Dobson and bandmate Ryan Chalmers’ performed at the Kortright Centre for Conservation in Woodbridge, Ont. Chalmers’ electric guitar was entirely powered by the EV6 using the EV’s plug-in feature called V2L (vehicle to load).

Built off their E-GMP platform, the new Kia EV6 provides a single-charge driving range of up to 480 km, and sub-20 minute high-speed charging time. Expected to arrive in Canada next year, the EV6 will have 800V charging capability, taking on average 18 minutes to boost the battery from 10% to 80%.

Speaking of the OEM’s new brand identity, Elias El-Achhab, Chief Operating Officer, Kia Canada, said “At Kia we believe that movement inspires ideas—in our design, in our strategy, in our workforce—and we want our vehicles to inspire consumers in innovative and sustainable ways, whether they’re on a road trip or powering an electric guitar.”

El-Achhab added that Kia Canada is “Making a long-term commitment to sustainable mobility, and EV6 is the first to embody our new design and mission, which will see 7 all-new plug-in hybrid or dedicated electric models hit the Canadian market by 2025.”

The EV6 is part of the company’s Plan S strategy, in which Kia will shift their focus to electric and autonomous driving. The strategy also outlines Kia’s commitment to diversify in order to offer eco-friendly mobility services. The OEM also plans to promote more sustainable production methods.
