Construction of Automotive Innovation Park begins

Oro Station held a groundbreaking ceremony in August that marked the start of construction of its 500,000 square-foot Automotive Innovation Park industrial facility in Oro-Medonte.

The facility, which joins a business park with a motorsport road course and testing facilities, will be home to automotive engineering, education, service, and supply and manufacturing businesses. It is expected to bring in approximately 1,800 construction jobs to the region and 700 full-time jobs when completed.

“The Automotive Innovation Park began as a concept, born from a passion to preserve the automotive past while looking to an innovative future with education at its core,” said Geoffrey Campbell, Managing Partner of Oro Station. “We are honoured to have unanimous support from multiple levels of government and excited to be building Oro Station here in Ontario.”

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Mayor of Oro-Medonte Harry Hughes and MaryLynn West-Moynes, President of Georgian College, were among the many people that attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

A partnership with Georgian College will ensure the Oro Station becomes a centre for automotive education that aims to provide opportunities for students of multiple faculties to engage with the industry and take advantage of advanced training opportunities.

The facility is also meant to be a destination and platform for new automotive technologies to be developed in the province. Construction of the commercial and industrial buildings is expected to begin in 2021, while phase one for the park and circuit will be completed in 2022.
