The federal government will provide $100,000 in funding to Ontario to install 20 level-two electric vehicle (EV) connectors throughout the city of Guelph, which in turn is providing $220,000 towards the initiative.
The announcement was made by Lloyd Longfield, Member of Parliament for Guelph, on behalf of Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan, and aims to help boost the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) among residents in the area.
“We are committed to supporting green infrastructure projects that will bring us closer to a zero-emissions transportation sector and help advance Canada’s clean energy future,” said Longfield, in reference to the country’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Longfield said the initiative will provide Guelph residents with more options to buy a ZEV, charge and drive it, while also helping to reduce pollution.
Federal government funding for the project was pulled from the Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program as part of its goal to have ZEVs make up 100 per cent of passenger sales by 2040.
