Three automotive manufacturer innovations have been selected as winners of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) 2020 Automotive Innovation Awards. These include features from Porsche, Hyundai, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
The awards were presented by the Canadian International AutoShow, and announced at a ceremony on October 29 at the Ajax Convention Centre in Ajax, Ont.
Porsche won the Best Green Innovation with the Taycan 800-Volt Architecture. In a news release, AJAC described the Taycan as “the fastest-charging vehicle on the market and makes electric vehicle travel more convenient than ever.” AJAC said the vehicle has an 800-volt battery that can accept 100 kilometres of charge in five minutes, which is fast.
Hyundai won the Best Safety Innovation for its Blind Spot View Monitor, which incorporates 360-degree camera technology. The feature provides a clearer and wider-angle view that what traditional outside mirrors can offer, and “improves safety in traffic,” said AJAC.
And FCA won the Best Technical Innovation for its Ram Blind Spot Monitoring with Trailer Detection. The feature ensures the truck automatically detects the length of the trailer when connected. “Using this information, it can alert the driver if another vehicle is in the vehicle or trailer blind spot,” said AJAC.
Winners were selected by a panel of expert judges, with nominations made by AJAC members and finalists selected in each of the three categories.
