The Lexus Safety System + A has been named the winner of the 2018 Automotive Innovation Award by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).
The award was announced at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, where the Lexus safety system won in the Best Safety Innovation category.
“Lexus developed the Lexus Safety System + A to enhance the driver’s awareness and capabilities like never before,” said Jennifer Barron, Director of Lexus in Canada. “We’re honoured that the members of AJAC have recognized our efforts to make the roads safer for all users with this important award.”
The safety system was introduced on the 2018 Lexus LS sedan, adding active safety technologies to a bundle the company says is already offered on 98 per cent of the new models sold in Canada. The manufacturer has also introduced several driver assist technologies.
Overall, the Lexus Safety System + (LSS+) includes a Pre-Collision System (PCS) with pedestrian detection, All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA)/Lane Keep Assist (LKA), and Automatic High-Beam (AHB). Other systems are also offered as part of the LSS+ A bundle.
The pedestrian alert function, along with Active Steering Assist, have been described as a “World’s First” by the automaker, along with its Front Cross Traffic Alert system.
