TADA supports policies to reduce vehicle ownership costs

More than 80 per cent of Ontario families consider their vehicle to be a household necessity, according to the Trillium Automobile Dealers Association (TADA).

TADA has been advocating for policies that help lower the costs associated with vehicle ownership and operation. The fact that Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown has made several commitments to help reduce the cost of operating the family car falls in line with the association’s values.

“In particular, Ontario new car dealers applaud the commitment to eliminate Ontario’s Drive Clean program for light-duty vehicles. Over time, Drive Clean has proven to be a useless and expensive program that does little for the environment, while costing drivers and automobile dealers time and money,” TADA said in a news release. “Every model year, vehicles become more fuel efficient and cleaner — reducing the need for an emissions testing regime that is a relic of the 1990s.”

Other policies like the introduction of a $500 Winter Tire Tax Credit, freezing fees on driver’s licenses and vehicle registration for a period of two years, and reducing the Small Business tax rate have also garnered approval by TADA.

“Our association prides itself on working with all three political parties at Queen’s Park. We look forward to working with them as they develop their 2018 election platforms, advocating for policies to support auto retail by lowering the costs associated with vehicle ownership and operating a dealership,” said TADA.
