Rifco Charity Golf Classic a huge success

September 25, 2013

Rifco-Classic-300Rifco Inc. welcomed over 100 participants from all over North America for a perfect day of golf at its second annual Rifco Charity Classic, held at the Innisfail Golf and Country Club, south of Red Deer, Alta.

Participants ranged from those in the auto industry and financial services, to local vendors. The winning team of Devan Decksheimer, Josh Baker, Kyle Keegan and Kyle Waddle, in the best ball format, shot a stellar 17 under par, taking home the “Rifco Cup.”

The Rifco Charity Classic was organized to raise funds to rebuild the Haiti Children’s Home orphanage after the devastating earthquake in January 2010. Every year the staff at Rifco chooses a worthy charity to support and for the past four years the staff has chosen an orphanage supported by Haitian Children’s Aid Society (HCAS), a registered Canadian charity. Over $25,000 was raised; more than double the amount raised in 2012.

Kathleen Taylor, executive director of HCAS was overwhelmed by the support and total, “There was such generosity in the room. Everybody wants to help in one way or another, and going to Haiti isn’t for everyone, but learning how they can make a difference by sponsoring a child or by making a donation, it was great to see.

The money raised at last year’s golf tournament went to building three houses at the orphanage,” said Taylor. “This year, the money raised will be used to build solar panels for the orphanage which will provide consistent power and will save us $25,000 annually on electrical bills. One of our core values at HCAS is to empower and support the people of Haiti for a sustainable future.”

Rifco’s CFO, Lance Kadatz, added, “what better way to spend a gorgeous sunny Tuesday than on the golf course raising money for an organization that is near and dear to the hearts of Rifco. As a company, we are lucky to have partners in business that care about what we are doing outside of the finance sector.”
