In Fort McMurray, Alta., Northstar Ford, run by Marty Giles, was hit by thieves over the weekend. He and his staff returned to the store to find three of their vehicles, a brand new Ford F-150 Harley Davidson edition, a F-150 FX and also a Mustang GT bereft of their wheels and tires. Although nobody likes to be robbed, Giles decided that rather than get angry, he would get even. So, he decided to put together a very unique and rather clever radio commercial. In it, Giles, with good humour, says “I know you’ve heard of our family pricing but over the weekend, we had some non family members come and steal some rims and tires. Rather than getting angry I decided to turn into a positive because that is what we do at Northstar Ford.” In the commercial, Giles says “if you give us a tip or the RCMP tip that leads to the recovery of these rims and tires and arrest of these criminals we will give you $10,000 and also $10,000 to a charity of the RCMP’s choosing.” He also says that if the offenders return the missing wheels and tires he will “call off the posse, no harm no foul.”
However and he has a point, when he says “do you think your pals won’t turn you in for 10 grand? Better return them skippy because I get a great deal on commercials and I will run them forever until you get caught.” Giles ends the commercial with “Northstar Ford: the way the ratting out your friend experience should be.”
Truly a great approach for turning misfortune into a good cause; way to go Marty Giles and Northstar Ford!
