ARPAC announces Car for Life program

On May 15, ARPAC (the Association of Auto Parts Recyclers in Quebec), announced a new, national Car for Life support program for healthcare providers. The idea behind it is that those who wish to get rid of old junk cars can contact the Car for Life program and the foundation will donate an amount of money based on the car’s age and condition to the owner’s choice of participant organization. Meanwhile the vehicle gets delivered to the nearest ARPAC recycling centre.

In order to maximize effectiveness of the program, ARPAC has partnered with a number of healthcare organizations, including:

* Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles Bruneau
* Heart and Stroke Foundation
* Quebec Respiratory Health Foundation/The Lung Association
* Mental Illness Foundation
* Foundation of Stars – Research on diseases that affect children
* Fondation Hôpital Charles-Lemoyne
* Eye Disease Foundation
* Opération enfant soleil
* Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada

According to ARPAC’s Chairman of the Board Pierre Robitaille, donations for the program range from $200 for pre 2001 vehicles, to $500 for 2005 and newer models. In addition, Robitaille also said that in setting up the Car for Life Program, the ARPAC Foundation “wanted to have as many partners as possible. That way, donors can give to a cause they really care about: cancer, lung disease, or a child suffering from a serious illness All of us, directly or indirectly, know someone with an illness. It is for them, for us, and for our children that we created this program.”
