The Motor Vehicle Retailers of Ontario released an announcement congratulating Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s recent and third majority government win, as the premier is known for his strong stance and support of the Canadian automotive industry.
The re-election means that Ford will continue to push back against U.S. tariffs, with a mandate to navigate the challenges around Trump’s levies — one of which is set to take effect in early March. The MVRO described Ford as the “most pro-auto Premier in Ontario’s history.”
“His relentless advocacy to make the case that America is stronger when working together with Ontario is exactly what we need — something those of us in the highly integrated North American auto industry know very well,” said the MVRO in its announcement.
The MVRO said it plans to work with Ford on pro-auto policies like saving drivers money by cutting the gasoline tax, banning “congestion pricing” on all roads and highways, cracking down on auto theft, and expanding the use of GPS monitoring bracelets for people granted bail, among other things.
“Premier Ford’s proven track record of supporting the automotive industry is unparalleled. Ontario’s 1,100 new car and truck retailers are eager to work alongside him to implement his upcoming agenda of pro-auto policies,” said the MVRO.
