In the world of cloud-based options and electric vehicle charging, dealers in Canada may be interested to note that Emobi launched a streamlined Plug & Charge solution that uses AI-powered identification and cloud-based certificate authentication.
The solution is called JustPlug and is meant to address limitations within the EV charging ecosystem. The company does this by increasing compatibility with existing EV infrastructure, and by reinforcing security. Emobi said JustPlug follows the international ISO 15118 security standard and uses secure cloud technology within that standard to provide a “streamlined, accessible option.”
“Current Plug & Charge technology is limited by infrastructure constraints, especially for Level 2 chargers and older hardware,” said Lin Sun Fa, Co-Founder and CEO of Emobi, in a statement. “Our approach with JustPlug doesn’t replace the existing implementations but instead complements them.”
Sun Fa said the company is expanding the accessibility of a secure Plug & Charge within the ISO 15118 standard “without the need for costly upgrades or disruptions” to create a solution that is both flexible and future-proof. Emobi also said they place a high priority on cybersecurity.
“Since the inception of Plug & Charge technologies in 2014, adoption has been slow due to the need for extensive upgrades and the high costs for network operators and vehicle manufacturers,” they said in a news release. “Emobi’s solution is designed to reduce these barriers, accelerating the adoption of Plug & Charge capabilities without disrupting existing systems or requiring costly hardware and firmware updates.”
The company exhibited and demoed part of its Plug & Charge technology at the November 2024 CharIN Testival in San Bernardino, United States.
