Clean electric vehicle charging company JOLT kicked off a nationwide initiative to electrify the country with its first installation in the City of Richmond Hill, which is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
In a news release, the company said Richmond Hill represents the first municipality in the GTA to offer the first 7kWh of charging free-of-charge to EV drivers in the community. Each one of the company’s JOLT stations provides 7kWh of daily energy for free through its app, which translates to 40-50 kilometres of range in about 15-20 minutes — depending on the vehicle.
“Our state of the art chargers run on renewable energy. With our launch in Richmond Hill, we’re not just installing chargers — we’re supercharging communities, driving local economies, and accelerating electrification for cities,” said Brendan Dillon, Country Manager at JOLT Canada, in a statement.
JOLT said the convenience of its 7kWh of daily free-of-charge translates to more than $1,100 in annual savings. The company has plans to install more chargers too — up to 5,000 public DC fast chargers across the country, with an integrated Digital Out-of-Home advertising network that would fund the free charging allocation.
“As more Canadians switch to EVs, our mission is to eliminate the barriers that would otherwise hold them back,” said Dillon in a statement. “With the support of forward-thinking partners like the City of Richmond Hill, we’re delivering infrastructure solutions that make the EV transition not just possible, but inevitable.”
JOLT originated in Australia and has expanded its free EV charging network across the country, in addition to New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and now Canada.
