Kia to transition to sustainable mobility solutions provider

Kia recently presented its roadmap to lead the global electrification era at its CEO Investor Day in Seoul, Korea, which it plans to do in part by expanding its electric vehicle lineup and enhancing its hybrid EV lineup.

In a news release, the company said it has updated its mid- to long-term business strategy in response to uncertainties across the global mobility landscape. Its goal is to sell 1.6 million EVs annually in 2030, introduce 15 models, and target 250,000 PBV sales (originally Purpose Built Vehicle, but changed by Kia to Platform Beyond Vehicle) by the same period.

In a statement, Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song said the company is “enhancing its global business strategy to further the establishment of an innovative EV line-up and accelerate the company’s transition to a sustainable mobility solutions provider.”

“By responding effectively to changes in the mobility market and efficiently implementing mid-to-long-term strategies, Kia is strengthening its brand commitment to the wellbeing of customers, communities, the global society, and the environment,” added Song.

Kia plans to be a leading EV brand by selling more electrified models among its total sales, which include battery EVs, HEVs, and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). It is projecting overall electrified model (annual) sales of 2.48 million units — or 58 per cent of Kia’s total sales in 2030.
