GM to build factory in Quebec, produce cathode active material

General Motors is returning to Quebec to build a $500-million factory in Bécancour to make cathode active material—an integral component of electric vehicle batteries. “If you want to build a carbon-free future, Canada needs to be part of the equation,” said federal industry minister François-Philippe Champagne, who was joined virtually by Pierre Fitzgibbon (his Quebec counterpart), and Scott Bell, President and Managing Director of GM’s Canadian unit during the announcement.
