Following a record Q2 for new EV sales in the United States, Kelley Blue Book U.S. has recently published two new lists: the 10 Best Used Hybrids and EVs Under $20,000 for 2021 and the 10 Best Used Hybrids and EVs Under $15,000 for 2021. In the company’s press release, Matt DeLorenzo, senior managing editor for Kelley Blue Book, stated that “One of the most underrated deals is to buy a used hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or all-electric vehicle.”
The Toyota Prius topped both of the Kelley Blue Book lists —the 2017 Toyota Prius with a fuel economy of 5.40 Litres/100km combined and a range of 946.29 km is listed as the best used hybrid and EV under $20,000. The 2015 Toyota Prius with a fuel economy of 4.90 Litres/100 km combined and 918.93 km is listed as the best used hybrid and EV under $15,000.
In addition to the 2017 Toyota Prius, Kelley Blue Book’s 10 Best Used Hybrids and EVs Under $20,000 for 2021 include (in ascending order) the 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid, the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, the 2013 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, the 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid, the Lexus ES 300h, the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV, the 2018 Nissan Leaf, the 2017 Chevrolet Volt and in the tenth spot, the 2019 Kia Niro Hybrid.
“Alternative-power vehicles have been on the market for 20 years now, so these models are well-established and have proven reliability,” DeLorenzo said.
For Kelley Blue Book’s 10 Best Used Hybrids and EVs Under $15,000 for 2021, as mentioned, the 2015 Toyota Prius takes the top spot, followed by the 2014 Toyota Camry Hybrid, the 2015 Honda Civic Hybrid, the 2015 Chevrolet Volt, the 2017 Nissan Leaf, the 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, the 2017 Toyota Prius C, the 2015 Ford Fusion, and in the tenth spot, the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid.
“There are plenty of choices out there,” says DeLorenzo, who adds that used hybrids and electric vehicles are “an attractive option to consider, since currently there is a major shortage of new-car inventory across the board. Buyers of a used electrified vehicle certainly will save money at the pump, and some can even skip the gas station entirely.”
