KBB reveals 10 Best Automotive Technologies for 2021

Kelley Blue Book recently announced its 10 Best Automotive Technologies for 2021, with items like a stolen vehicle tracking software and exit warning to protect cyclists included on the list.

“In 2021, we continue to be amazed by the incredible advancements made by automakers, as the technology within a vehicle deserves as much consideration as the mechanics under the hood,” said Matt DeLorenzo, Senior Managing Editor, Kelley Blue Book.

The list of technologies was created to offer consumers a reference as they evaluate vehicle systems meant to make their journey safer, more efficient and enjoyable, according to DeLorenzo.

The top 10 list includes:

  • Advanced driver assist systems (such as Ford’s Co-Pilot360, Subaru’s EyeSight, and Toyota Safety Sense, among others);
  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), which is part of many advanced driver-assist systems;
  • Connected mobile apps and digital key;
  • Teen Driver technology — Teen Driver is offered exclusively by General Motors, and is meant as a safeguard for new drivers and for parents to keep an eye on their teens;
  • Exit Warning to protect cyclists, which uses rear-looking sensors to detect approaching bicycles and traffic;
  • Wireless smartphone charging and connectivity (such as through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto);
  • 360-degree camera;
  • Video rearview mirror, which is a rear-mounted camera that displays the view behind the vehicle in the same position as a rearview mirror;
  • Stolen vehicle tracking software — a built-in tracking technology that helps owners locate a vehicle’s exact location for law enforcement to recover it. The technology is part of assistance and security systems, such as Subaru Starlink, Kia UVO, Hyundai Blue Link, and GM OnStar; and
  • Blind-spot view monitor: OEM such as Genesis, Kia, and Hyundai offer easy-to-see displays within the gauge cluster of their vehicles.
