U.K. auto production down 18.2% in October

Vehicle production in the U.K. fell by 18.2% in October due in large part to suppressed demand stemming from lockdowns. During the month, 24,490 fewer cars were built than in 2019. So far this year, the market has seen a slump of 33.8% (379,308 units) compared to the first 10 months in 2019. Mike Hawes, Chief Executive of the SMMT, said manufacturing had been “battered” by Brexit and the pandemic, and now faces the challenge of shifting to electric.
