CADA publishes guide on how to safely operate dealerships

CADA just published a guide on “Safely Operating an Automobile Dealership During the COVID-19 Pandemic” for provincial dealer associations and its dealer members.

CADA President & CEO Tim Reuss said the guide was published on the association’s members website and was provided to the provincial dealer associations to customize and adapt to their respective provincial requirements and communicate the information to their dealers members.

“CADA has produced this guide to assist dealers in coping with this crisis by providing the most reliable information that is currently available from respected sources. We have referenced and drawn upon numerous credible resources such as the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) which is Canada’s national resource for the advancement of workplace health and safety,” said CADA in its report.

The guide can be accessed through the association’s dealer portal, located on its website. It covers a range of important topics, from dealership management protocols and general principles for preventing the spread of the virus, to physical distancing, service operations, and in-dealership sales. There is also a section regarding resources for dealers.

The association also said it sourced information from the Public Health Agency of Canada, the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, and several elements from La Corporation des concessionnaires automobiles du Québec (CCAQ)’s guide, along with their work with Novo SST.

“The objective of this guide is to help dealerships perform necessary dealership operations in conditions that meet health and safety requirements. The priority must be the health of both customers and employees. The measures outlined in this document are designed to meet those objectives,” said CADA.

The guide is a good indication of where the auto retail industry is at, now, with COVID-19, and what’s coming up for this sector. Dealerships across the country are implementing new strategies to ensure business can go on, in some form or another.
