Drivers lack knowledge about green tires

green_tires_640xCanadian drivers want fuel-efficient vehicles but are lacking information about their tires to help achieve that, said the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC).

According to a recent TRAC survey, 88 per cent of drivers feel they have a moral obligation to protect the environment by ensuring their vehicles are as fuel-efficient as possible. Of those surveyed, two-thirds knew that properly inflated tires would help with fuel efficiency.

The survey also found a little over three-quarters of drivers are not familiar with low rolling resistance tires and the fact that they can cut fuel costs. After learning more about these tires, almost 70 per cent of those surveyed said they would likely buy them even if they costed more than conventional tires, said the association.

As part of Be Tire Smart Week, which takes place across Canada May 16-22, TRAC will be launching an online resource to help educate motorists about their tires. A special guide will educate motorists about vehicle and tire care with product selection, maintenance and fuel saving driving tips, said TRAC.
