Drivers who activate texi, a free, interactive mobile app, can earn one point for every minute they travel without using their smartphones, said the non-profit organization. Users are also entered into a monthly draw to win prizes, including gift cards, smartphones, travel vouchers gas cards and more.
The more points they earn, the bigger the prizes up for grabs. For example, drivers who use texi for more than 15 minutes are entered into a draw to win a brand new Honda Fit, said the Dilawri Foundation.
“In our connected culture, it is important for Canadian drivers to have access to well-designed apps which effectively fulfill their need to stay in touch while eliminating the risks that come with distracted driving, said Kap Dilawri, co-founder of The Dilawri Foundation, in a written release. “Our goal with texi is to take the driving experience one step further by getting drivers excited about using the app as soon as they get into the car before they start driving.”
The app also has a social component, by auto-responding to incoming texts from a library of memes — humorous images or phrases that spread over the Internet— on Android devices, said the organization. Users can also earn extra points for sharing the app on social media.
texi is available on Google Play and the App Store for free download.
