Who-drivingDoug Leahy gained fame with his siblings in the award-winning Canadian folk group, Leahy, back in the 1980s. Nowadays, he’s passing on the family tradition and his Celtic roots to his children with Doug Leahy & the Next Generation Leahy. Together with his wife, Jennifer, and their multi-talented children — Adele, Gregory, Angus, Cecilia, Joseph, and Evelyn— all under the age of 13, they keep their Irish heritage alive through music, song, and dance. Strumming instruments on stage such as the fiddle, cello, and French accordion, the family is currently touring across North America. The couple home-school their seven kids, and are expecting their eighth child later this year. They also operate a cow/calf farm in the town of Lakefield, Ont.

“Here’s my Mercedes-Benz! I’m surprised how well it handles. I’m not afraid to drive it. It’s easy. I like it,” boasts Jennifer Leahy after a concert preview with Doug Leahy & the Next Generation Leahy at the Flato Markham Theatre in Markham, Ont. – a sneak peak to promote their upcoming performance on Dec. 19, 2015.

“We need it for the space, the kids, the babysitter, and our equipment. It’s big, but it’s amazing how it handles,” adds husband, Doug Leahy.

It says freedom and flexibility. There’s so much room. We got it for the cargo room because otherwise we’d be pulling a trailer with all of our equipment. All of our equipment is in there, and of course, the space for the children and the headroom is great. It meets all our needs. Now that we have it, we drive it on tour.
