Dealers from two family-run Ford dealerships received the 2015 Motor Dealers’ Association of Alberta’s (MDA) Dealers of Excellence awards.
David, Duane and Rick Koch, all brothers from the Koch Automotive Group in Edmonton, won in the metro category, while Greg Ducharme from Ducharme Motors Ltd. in Bonnyville, Alta. took home the non-metro category.
It’s not the first time these families have been the recipients of the MDA awards. Murray Koch, the Koch brothers’ uncle, and Ducharme’s father Marcel, are past winners.
“It’s great to be recognized by your peers. At the first MDA convention I ever went to, my dad won the award — I thought it was so cool and I remember how proud I felt of him,” said Ducharme.
“The Koch brothers and Greg are well-respected members of our association and our industry,” said Denis Ducharme, president of MDA.
“They exemplify excellence in the way they deal with their customers, their employees and their communities, and it shows in their results,” he said.
The MDA president added the winners have much in common: they have earned multiple Ford presidents awards for their sales performance and customer satisfaction ratings, own more than one dealership, and operate their businesses using modern business principles but with a “small family business” feel.
Said Rick Koch, “We’ve seen so many great dealers win this award over the years and we were very excited to get the call. It’s validation we’re doing this right.”
The MDA Dealer of Excellence awards are given out annually to one metro dealer from Calgary or Edmonton and a non-metro winner from the rest of the province. Award candidates are nominated by peers, and then the applications are examined by a panel of past award recipients — who select the winners.
