Sonic Automotive has made a few executive changes that helps it secure the founding family’s leadership.
Scott Smith has been appointed CEO of Sonic Automotive effective immediately, announced the Charlotte, N.C.-based automotive retailer, one of the largest in the U.S.
His father O. Bruton Smith, who served as Sonic Automotive’s chairman and CEO, is now the company’s executive chairman. O. Bruton’s other son David will remain vice-chairman.
In his expanded role, Scott Smith, who co-founded the company and served as president and chief strategic officer since 2007, will develop the strategic direction of the company, provide leadership of day-to-day operations and communicate with key stakeholders.
He will work closely with O. Bruton and David, along with executive management and the board of directors.
Sonic Automotive is one of the largest automotive retailers in the U.S.
