Canadian dealers should seriously review the recent findings of a study on the Tesla shopping model.
Swapalease.com, an online car lease marketplace in the U.S., surveyed more than 2,500 U.S. consumers from May 10-30, 2015, to get their thoughts on the Tesla manufacturer-direct shopping model.
Turns out the majority of respondents are “all in favour of it,” for 67.4 per cent of women and 75 per cent of men.
The online study also found half of women would like to avoid the dealer negotiation process, preferring to work directly with the manufacturer for their next car purchase or lease.
What’s more, almost a third of women and men felt they could get a better deal directly from the manufacturer.
Half of the women and even more men —57 per cent of them —think the direct manufacturer shopping model would work for all car and truck brands, both domestic and or foreign.
Consumers also think they can do service and financing without the dealer.
And even fewer, 14 per cent of women and 26 per cent of men, would still want to pick up their vehicle at the dealership.
As a benchmark, a little more than 50 per cent and three-quarters of men polled are familiar with Tesla’s model.
