OpenRoad Auto Group helps out single mom

OpenRoad Auto Group donated a vehicle and complimentary oil changes for three years to a single mom, whose vehicle was stolen and subsequently crashed during the Christmas holidays.

Jane Scott, a single mom from Vancouver, B.C., was presented with the keys to a pre-owned 2006 Hyundai Tuscon in January at OpenRoad Hyundai Richmond.

“No one likes to hear stories about people getting their cars stolen and destroyed, let alone to a single mom with two kids who was trying to just make ends meet over the Christmas holidays,” says Larry Cho, General Manager, OpenRoad Hyundai Richmond, who handed over the keys to Scott along with Christian Chia, President and CEO of OpenRoad Auto Group.

On Dec. 30th, The Vancouver Sun reported thieves had made off with Scott’s 1999 Chrysler Intrepid from the alley outside of her East Vancouver Apartment, and then crashed it during a joyride. Not only did Scott lose her wheels but also she was liable for all costs incurred because she did not have comprehensive auto insurance.

OpenRoad management said they tracked down Scott that very day and offered her a replacement vehicle, free of charge.
“Jane’s story struck a chord with us so we knew we had to do something to help out,” says Cho, adding Scott was overjoyed and extremely thankful for the donation.

Cho says OpenRoad Auto Group supports a wide variety of nonprofit and charitable organizations, but donates vehicles selectively on a case-by-case basis.
