Jeep takes drivers on a wild ride

Jeep turned a downtown Vancouver city street into a wild mountain river.

The Jeep brand brought a new meaning to the test drive experience on a busy downtown Vancouver street.

A 30 second “River in the City” commercial, which debuted on television this past weekend, unfolds as unsuspecting drivers were recruited to test the Jeep Cherokee by following directions from its navigation system throughout downtown Vancouver.

But when the drivers followed a surprise detour, they found themselves driving on a block of Granville Street that had been converted into a forest with snowbanks, boulders, moss, live fir/hemlock trees and two mixed-breed wolves, complete with about 945,000 litres of “mountain river.”

“We wanted to bring to life the real-world capabilities of the Jeep Cherokee in a unique approach,” said Oliver Francois, Chief Marketing Officer, FCA-Global, in a press release.

“Our ‘River in the City’ takes an untraditional approach to create a powerful statement that the Jeep Cherokee can handle anything a city throws at it.”

The ad can be viewed at www.jeep.com/cherokeedetour, along with behind-the-scenes video and a photo gallery that explores the making of the commerical, as well as interviews with the drivers.
