The entire new dealership project is a family affair (left to right) Gary and Darnell Thulin, son-in-law Scott Kilby and daughter Allison Kilby
Campbell River, B.C. Hyundai dealer Scott Kilby, informed us about the exciting new dealership which is now under construction. Kilby says that with the existing location having grown to capacity and the lease not being renewed, the time was right to find a more suitable, larger site with greatly improved access.
Located at 1853 Meredith Road, close by the North Island Highway (known as the northern gateway to Campbell River), the new 8.39 acre, family purchased location, will allow the dealership to capitalize on a high volume artery in the city as well as being positioned in a thriving commercial and light industrial district. The new Campbell River Hyundai dealership is expected to be operational by January 2015.
Long time readers might recognize Kilby from our Young Guns special feature, in the January/February 2012 issue of Canadian auto dealer. (http://cdnautodealer.dgtlpub.com/2012/2012-02-29/home.php)
Kilby’s story is quite remarkable. Starting out washing cars as a teenager, he talked his way into a sales job at a local dealership. He proved very good at it and rose to become part of the management team. Kilby later branched out on his own, starting a business with wife Allison that specialized in pre-approved loans and sourcing used inventory from local dealers, before acquiring his own store. Since acquiring Campbell River Hyundai, not only has the franchise been profitable every year, it has also become a market share leader in the community while remaining exclusively a family business.
