Chrysler celebrates 30 years of minivans

2014 Chrysler Town & Country 30th Anniversary EditionChrysler Group is celebrating three decades of building and selling minivans. Back in 1983 the then Chrysler Corporation unveiled the world’s first garageable van based on its ubiquitous front-wheel drive K-car architecture. The 1984 model year Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager proved to be a huge success, creating one of the most popular automotive segments of the 1980s and 1990s and became a major source of volume and profits for dealers both here and in the U.S. Since that time, more than 13 million Chrysler minivans have been sold.

Still the best selling minivans in Canada today, the assembled-in Windsor, Ont. Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country will be offered as special 30th Anniversary Editions for the 2014 model year to help celebrate this significant milestone.

Features on both Anniversary Edition models include a standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 engine, six-speed automatic transaxle, unique Granite Crystal Pearl Clearcoat exterior paint, specially appointed interiors and high levels of standard equipment. The 30th Anniversary Editions are being shipped to dealers and will be available for purchase by retail customers this fall.

The Dodge Grand Caravan was the best selling minivan in the world last year and besides being hugely popular in Canada, both it and the Chrysler Town & Country continue to account for approximately half of all minivans sold in the U.S. as well.
