Honda recalling 50,000 Civics

Since it’s debut last year, the 2012 Honda Civic hasn’t exactly witnessed much good news. A delayed introduction following supplier shortages was followed by unfavourable reviews, notably from Consumer Reports, which dropped the car from it’s Recommended list for the first time in years.

Now, comes another blow in the shape of a recall. In the U.S., some 50,000 2012 Civic models are being targeted for a potential driveshaft issue. The problem is that the driveshaft may not have been properly assembled which could result in disconnecting the engine from the driven wheels when the vehicle is in motion. Another potential problem is that the car could roll away if the parking brake mechanism hasn’t been engaged.

So far, no reports of accidents or injuries have been recorded and Honda has said it will begin notifying affect owners towards the end of the month. No word yet if the recall affects 2012 Civic models sold in Canada.
