Toyota expands electrified lineup with new EVs, PHEVs

Toyota Canada used a recent media event in Quebec to showcase its growing lineup of electrified vehicles, including new battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models scheduled to arrive in dealerships this year.

The automaker’s Unplug and Drive event, held June 2-5, brought automotive journalists together to test several upcoming models as Toyota continues expanding its electrified portfolio. According to Toyota Canada, electrified vehicles accounted for 64 per cent of the brand’s sales in Canada so far in 2026.

“Our strategy has always been to offer Canadians the right products, at the right time,” said Steve Pilkey, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Toyota Canada Inc.

“When it comes to electrification, our multi-pathway approach provides our customers with the power of choice. This has allowed us to put more than 660,000 electrified Toyota vehicles on the road in Canada to date.”

Toyota said Canadians will be able to choose from 21 electrified models by the end of the year, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid and four battery-electric vehicles.

Among the vehicles highlighted were the all-new 2026 C-HR battery-electric crossover, the refreshed 2026 bZ compact electric SUV and the new bZ Woodland electric SUV. Toyota also showcased the redesigned 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid and Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

The company said Quebec remains its largest market for zero-emission vehicle sales, accounting for more than one-third of Toyota battery-electric and plug-in hybrid sales in Canada so far this year.

Attendees also received an early look at the all-electric 2027 Toyota Highlander, the automaker’s first three-row battery-electric SUV and the first mass-market Toyota battery-electric vehicle assembled in North America. Toyota said the model will offer up to 511 kilometres of range and arrive at dealerships later this year.

Toyota said it has sold more than 35 million electrified vehicles globally and remains the top seller of electrified vehicles in Canada.
