The AWIN Group of Dealerships and Zanchin Automotive Group teamed up to take ownership of all corporate-owned Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the Greater Toronto Area, according to a December 7 Mercedes-Benz Canada news release.
The OEM is divesting the dealerships, known collectively as the Toronto Retail Group (TRG), to better position itself for long-term growth. The transfer of ownership is estimated to be completed by the end of the first quarter in 2022.
“This move will allow Mercedes-Benz Canada to focus its efforts and resources on supporting a strong, independent national dealer network that includes the Toronto Retail Group—a network that can act with even more speed and agility to deliver the highest level of customer experience,” said Eva Wiese, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada.
The AWIN/Zanchin group will jointly own all TRG dealerships, although the management structure at each dealership will be determined once the transfer of ownership is complete.
The TRG dealerships include Mercedes-Benz Downtown, Mercedes-Benz Markham, Mercedes-Benz Thornhill, Mercedes-Benz Maple (Mercedes-Benz Maple Van Centre), Mercedes-Benz Midtown, Mercedes-Benz Mississauga (Mercedes-Benz Mississauga Van Centre), and Mercedes-Benz Etobicoke.
Currently, Sylvester Chuang, Co-founder and Chairman of the AWIN Group of Dealerships owns and operates Mercedes-Benz Oakville, Mercedes-Benz Victoria, and Mercedes-Benz Nanaimo, while the Zanchin Automotive Group owns and operates Mercedes-Benz Newmarket and Mercedes-Benz Durham.
“As quoted by Disney, all of our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them,” said Chuang. “We are incredibly excited to achieve our dream of an expanded partnership with the Mercedes-Benz family.”
