NHTSA rejects 2019 petition for formal Tesla investigation around battery fires

According to Autoblog, the NHTSA rejected a 2019 petition to open a formal investigation into Tesla vehicle fires. That is based on a federal filing on Monday. The agency did open a formal review in October 2019 on whether the automaker should have recalled 2,000 vehicles instead of issuing a software upgrade for the defect. However, as far as a formal investigation goes, the NHTSA said “The available data indicate[s] that non-crash battery fires in Tesla vehicles are rare events.” (Source: Autoblog) Read the original story.
