NHTSA urges OEMs to build cybersecurity into vehicle development cycle

Cyber threats and attacks against connected cars remain an issue for OEMs and consumers. “A cybersecurity company called Karamba Security connected a vehicle electronic control unit (ECU) online and found that hackers made more than 25,000 breach attempts in three days,” said Car and Driver. “Only one succeeded,” and the ECU was not real. The NHTSA is urging automakers to take a “layered approach to vehicle cybersecurity,” while the United Nations has passed regulations that are more strict.
