Japan aims for carbon neutrality by 2050

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga’s first official policy will be to set a target for achieving carbon neutrality, or net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Japan is the world’s fifth largest greenhouse gas emitter. “We need to change our thinking to the view that taking assertive measures against climate change will lead to changes in industrial structure and the economy that will bring about growth,” said Suga in his first policy address to parliament.
