Canadian Black Book has announced its 2020 Best Retained Value Award winners — vehicles that have retained the highest percentage of their original MSRP after four years.
Of the vehicles measured for this year’s awards, the 2016 model year ones demonstrated impressive value retention by holding 57 per cent of their original MSRP. CBB said this was industry wide. The previous 2018 record was a 53 per cent value retention across all 2014 vehicles in Canada, and last year it was 52 per cent.
“Overall we are seeing a very positive trend in vehicle depreciation over the past few years. That is simply to say, in general, vehicles today are better at holding value than they were in years past,” said Brian Murphy, VP Research & Analytics at Canadian Black Book. “Our Best Retained Value Awards are our way of making these trends in depreciating public knowledge.”
Included in CBB’s Best Retained Value Award winners are the three Overall Brand Award winners for OEMs that hold the most value among their product line. Highlighting the car, truck and luxury categories, this year’s winners are Toyota and Porsche — Toyota having won in two categories.
In the Zero Emission category, a CBB award segment that has only been measured for two years, the Ford Focus is the winner after holding 51 per cent of its MSRP. CBB said this is higher than winners in other categories, with models across all categories holding 45 per cent of their MSRP, on average — up one percentage point from last year.
“Our awards can help Canadian consumers to make educated vehicle purchase decisions by illustrating which brands and models hold value the best,” said Murphy.
