FCA employees raise funds to help Ontario families

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Canada employees and retirees seek to make a difference this holiday season by donating more than $1.24 million to the United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County 2019 campaign.

The announcement was made at the carmaker’s Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario. The funds will help local families and individuals gain access to education to help improve their financial stability. United Way’s programs include emergency assistance, after-school programs, and mentorship and support is also offered.

“FCA employees in Windsor are some of the most generous I’ve seen throughout my career,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO, FCA Canada. “No matter the cause, they are tireless when it comes to helping others who are struggling or going through tough times.”

The team also unveiled a second charitable contribution: new toys collected from the plant’s employees, all valued at over $35,000. The toys were stored in eight Chrysler Pacifica minivans and will be distributed to the Windsor Fire & Rescue Services as part of the annual Sparky’s Toy Drive.

“2018 marks our 71st year of working with United Way and 16th year with Sparky’s Toy Drive,” said Bigland. “I couldn’t be more proud of our Canadian workforce for their unwavering commitment to the local community.”

This is not the first time FCA employees have volunteered for United Way events. Some also took part in the Detroit Free Press Marathon or volunteered their time at beverage stations to help participants. Their collected efforts generated over $34,000.
