Budget 2017 disappoints: TADA

Frank Notte

The Trillium Automobile Dealers Association says it is “disappointed” that Ontario’s 2017 Budget has excluded Bill 3, Cutting Red Tape for Motor Vehicle Dealers Act. “To save dealers precious time and money, Ontario should provide in-dealership registration and licensing that has been available to Quebec dealers since 2002,” said Frank Notte, TADA Director of Government Relations.

Passage of Bill 3 would allow automobile dealers to electronically register and license the vehicles they sell or lease instead of manually transporting paperwork back and forth to a licensing office, explained Notte.

“Individuals and businesses make highly secure, digital transactions every day — vehicle registrations should be no different,” said Notte. Currently in Quebec, 700 dealers conduct in-house registrations. Dealers in New Brunswick, PEI, New York State and several other U.S. states offer this service as well.

Notte also said the TADA hopes the Government of Ontario will eliminate red tape around EV/hybrid demo vehicle rules, allowing dealers to promote these vehicles in ways that increase sales.
