The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the 2015 World Car of the Year, edging out the Ford Mustang and the Volkswagen Passat.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the recent New York International Auto Show where the 11th World Car Awards were presented.
“The C-Class is a bestseller that has always been a trendsetter in the premium medium-size category,” said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes-Benz Canada. “It embodies what we understand modern automotive luxury made by Mercedes-Benz to be and has all the prerequisites to be a huge success.”
It was a good year for Mercedes-Benz, who won a triad of awards this year. The German auto maker also took home the 2015 World Luxury Car Award with its S Coupe —a category it also won in 2014 —and the AMG GT was crowned the 2015 World Performance Car.
The jurors, made up of 75 automotive journalists from around the world, awarded the Citroen C4 Cactus the 2015 World Car Design of the Year. The BMW i8 won the title of 2015 World Green Car.
The awards began in Paris last October, followed by a stop in Los Angeles for a test drive of the North American contenders in November, with the top three overall finalists announced at the Geneva International Auto Show in March.
