Canadian dealerships struggling to find enough technician talent should consider an innovative approach at recruitment used by a major U.S. automotive retailer.
Atlanta-based Asbury Automotive Group, one of the largest automotive retail and service groups in the U.S., has announced recently that it plans to employ up to 400 technicians over the next year or two to meet potential growth opportunities in its parts and service business.
The company said in a press release that it will pursue candidates for new technicians through partnerships with local technical schools, community colleges, and its vehicle manufacturer partners.
The automotive group also plans to employ graduates from its internal training program called Asbury Technical Institute.
Asbury said it anticipates its parts and service gross profit growth rate percentage to be in the mid-single digits range for 2015. The company currently operates 83 dealership locations, 25 collision repair centres and three standalone used vehicle stores.
